Piven is well known for his role as ARI GOLD in the hit HBO series Entourage, which aired for eight seasons and earned him three Emmys and a Golden Globe. He can be seen in upcoming films Crabs in a Bucket alongside Oscar winner Bruce Dern and Orange is the New Black star Taryn Manning, American Night opposite Emile Hirsch, Jonathon Rhys Meyers and Paz Vega and Legit Wiseguy with Palme d’Or winner and Oscar nominee director Roland Joffe.
Born and raised in a family deeply involved in the arts, Jeremy Piven started acting early. His parents cofounded the Piven Theatre Workshop, where he honed his craft and learned the Meisner technique, an acting method that promotes a connection with your scene partner. This foundation gave him the skills he needed to pursue an acting career that has spanned over four decades.
From Chicago Improv to Hollywood Stardom: The Early Career of Jeremy Piven
One of his earliest roles was that of head writer Jerry on the HBO comedy series The Larry Sanders Show in 1992. He went on to appear in three seasons of Seinfeld, and guest starred in other sitcoms and dramas such as Chicago Hope, Pride and Joy and the short-lived ABC series Cupid. He is also noted for his performance as the title character in the British period drama Mr. Selfridge (2013).
In the wake of the sexual misconduct scandal engulfing Hollywood, Piven was accused of inappropriate and unwanted behavior by several women. He subsequently took a leave of absence from the industry while still appearing in the TV show Wisdom of the Crowd, which was canceled by CBS in 2017. His accusers say that they are disappointed he skirted accountability and returned to work without ever apologizing or acknowledging his wrongdoings. In a recent Rolling Stone article, one of the women who came forward in 2017 and 2018 said that when she watches him perform or even sees him in a movie trailer it makes her physically sick.
